Revitalizing Your Skin in Brampton: How Microneedling and PRP Boost Collagen and Elastin

Microneedling with PRP therapy is a safe and effective treatment to rejuvenate the skin cells. Both types of skin revitalization treatments focus on stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins required for healthy youthful skin.

Time, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors can all play a role in the decline of our body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. By taking good care of our skin, eating a healthy diet, avoiding skin-damaging habits, and maintaining a level of hydration, we can slow down the visual aging process.

But is it enough?

For healthy radiant skin, consider taking your skincare regime to the next level with the help of a clinically proven treatment—PRP microneedling therapy.

Collagen and Elastin: The Skin’s Building Blocks

Collagen and elastin are amino acid proteins naturally produced by the body to help maintain the structure and elasticity of the skin. These proteins work closely together with variable functions.

Collagen is found in our skin, connective tissue, bones, tendons, and cartilage. It is responsible for the strength and structure of the skin. Elastin, on the other hand, provides elasticity, resilience, and flexibility to the skin tissue and to the organs. Within the connective tissue, elastin helps it to resume its original shape once it has contracted or stretched.

How to Combat the Natural Decline in Collagen and Elastin with Age

Both men and women experience a natural decline in collagen and elastin as we age, although at different rates. Using two popular scientifically proven medical cosmetic procedures to increase the rate of production of these proteins can help you rejuvenate the skin cells.

Microneedling: The Science Behind It

A microneedling treatment involves penetrating the skin surface with medical-grade surgical microneedles with a specialized tool. The hand-held device is glided over the targeted skin to evenly disperse the thin needles. Depending on the existing condition of the skin, the depth of penetration can be adjusted.

As the microneedles pierce the skin surface, the body’s natural healing process is stimulated and it begins to produce both collagen and elastin. This results in the plumping of the skin cells by tightening and firming of the skin surface.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): Enhancing the Process

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a natural therapy for boosting collagen and elastin and rejuvenating the skin cells. This three-step cosmetic medical procedure is painless and is often referred to as a vampire facial.

Plasma is the liquid part of your blood made of water and protein that allows red and white blood cells and platelets to flow in the bloodstream. Platelets are blood cells that stimulate blood clotting for natural healing purposes.

With a PRP treatment for the face, your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge device to separate the blood densities. Once the platelet-rich plasma is concentrated, it is injected into your skin. These platelets disassociate and stimulate the growth of new cells by promoting a greater production of collagen and elastin.

PRP treatment alone is used to enhance the tone and texture of the skin by tightening the skin cells. The result is healthier and firmer skin.

Microneedling and PRP: A Perfect Skin Rejuvenation Duo in Brampton

This combined skin rejuvenating treatment uses the unique science of microneedles to penetrate the skin layers for optimal results. As the needles create small injuries to the skin tissue, the plasma is able to be better absorbed into the cells. This stimulates a greater production of collagen and elastin to quickly heal the skin, leading to optimum results.

At Heart Lake Aesthetics, we combine microneedling with radiofrequency using the Lutronic® Infini™ RF Microneedling technology. This innovative technology has 49 microscopic needles that conduct radiofrequency energy into the dermis.

We also use microneedling with PRP, specifically the U225 Mesotherapy Gun. This technology can be used on all areas of the body, including the face, scalp, and limbs. It is virtually painless and delivers exceptions results.

The Procedure: What to Expect

In preparation for PRP and microneedling, there are several precautions to take in the weeks and days leading up to the procedure.

While a personalized plan will be constructed during your initial consultation, you will be advised to avoid sun exposure, including use of tanning beds, for four weeks before treatment. Avoiding exercise the day before, no consumption of caffeine on the day of treatment, and refraining from use of certain vitamins, minerals, and over-the-counter medications are recommended.

For the procedure, a numbing cream will be applied to the targeted areas to reduce discomfort during the treatment. A blood sample is drawn and placed in the centrifuge for preparation. The platelet-rich plasma is applied to the skin surface for the microneedling while the PRP is injected into the skin cells.

After the procedure, a hyaluronic acid serum will be rubbed into the skin. This solution will be left on the skin for at least four hours before being removed at home. Any signs of swelling or bruising will diminish over the following two to three days.

While you can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure, there are guidelines specific to the condition of your skin to follow. These involve avoiding exercise and makeup for the first 24 hours, avoiding direct sun exposure for 48 hours, and avoiding waxing, facials, Botox, and injectable fillers for two weeks.

Results and Maintenance

With the advanced technology of PRP and microneedling, you can expect to see immediate results. However, it may take up to six weeks to see rejuvenated skin. Optimal outcomes may require treatment every four to six weeks, depending on the condition of your skin. Most people have four to six treatments.
